Humphries Price and Wright Move On To Fourth Round Of PDC World Darts Championship

The current world champion, Luke Humphries, and previous champions Gerwyn Price and Peter Wright continue to remain in with an opportunity of championship glory at the PDC World Darts Championship after all three navigated through to the event’s fourth round.

Humphries, who wanted to be the first player since Gary Anderson (2015 and 2016) to back-to-back titles, was not at his best but showed resilience. The defending champion took a commanding 4-0 win over Wales’ Nick Kenny.

The night had been alive with the thriller seen between the 2021 champion Gerwyn Price and Joe Cullen in a 4-3 match that had been finalized on sudden-death leg. Price, tenth seed, had taken this match 3-0 up but Cullen was good enough to force it into a decider.

The last session was an emotional rollercoaster of nine breaks of throw in 11 legs, both missing opportunities for match darts before Cullen thrilled the crowd by hitting a fantastic 170 checkout to take the game into yet another sudden-death leg, which Price held his nerve over to take the break and send him into the fourth round.

“That was definitely one of the toughest matches I’ve played,” said Price. “I honestly thought for a moment at one stage that I may lose, but I certainly never give up. This wasn’t my best game, but I got the job done. There’s a lot more in there that I can give, and that’s where I look for the next round.”

Price is now going to face another Welsh opponent in the shape of Jonny Clayton and this match is going to be thrilling.
